missing longnose

I can’t find my long nose tang for 2 days. As you can see by this being post #2, I am a newbie. First tank and I started with a 300 gal system (200 gal 4 side viewing and 100 gal sump). I put a yellow longnose in a week ago and he seemed to fit right in with 3 yellow tangs, 3 regal tangs, foxface, flame angel, 2 clowns, coral beauty, sailfin tang, large purple tang, large clam, long spined black sea urchin,2 sand sifting stars, 6 shrimp, bubble tipped anemone and assorted corals. No remains that I can see and the tank is covered. I have mesh filters in the overflows so he is not in the sump.

Mine disappeared for about 3 weeks in a 65g.

I thought he jumped and was eaten by the dog or cats. But then all of a sudden he showed up just fine.

The only things in your tank I would worry about eatting a longnose are the sand sifting stars.

Also had a issue with a white sea urchin which had a liking for snails.

Found him. Dead... Can't get at him without dismantling a huge mountain of live rock. Can I leave him in? I had a whole bunch of snails but can’t find any. Starfish could be the culprit…? They are really fun to watch and I would like to keep them. Can I expct other problems from them?

i have heard of many a fish being claimed by starfish. I wouldnt leave him in there. But thats just my opionion.

Are you talking about a longnose hawkfish or butterfly? If it's a butterfly he probably was bullied to the point that he stressed/starved since most of the other fish you mentioned are somewhat aggressive and territorial.
