missing mandarin

i bought a mandarin a week ago and other than the first day i havent seen him. i assume he is dead but i dont know why. i dont have a mantis shrimp and i have small fish that are happy so i dont know whats going on. i have a well established tank with an active fuge so food was available. i saw him eating the first day and now he is gone

They can be very shy at first. Some are, some aren't. Have you checked the tank at night as they like to hunt after lights out.

Give him a few days to get used to the tank. He's probably shy. Start worrying if you don't see him for more than a week.

Mine has been in my tank for over a year and I only catch a glimpse of him once a month if I am lucky.

Some are shy, others not. I have four of them and two are always out and about, the other two hide.
