Missing Yellow Chromis Wrasse

I bought a small (around 1") wrasse a few weeks ago. He was out and about the front of the tank eating like a champ. He seemed to have no problems with the other tank mates. (Pink spotted goby, Flame Angel, 2 Clownfish, Pink spotted male anthias with 2 females and an assortment of cleanup crew hermits, emeralds, pep shrimp ect.) We got a RBTA and after placing the container of the RBTA in the sand bed out front, our wrasse has pretty much gone missing.
After two days of searching the overflow the sump the entire room.. No luck..Then we removed the container and about an hour later he popped out of the sand and went behind the LR and is now MIA again for the last three days. No sight even during feeding time. Is he ever going to come back out? Anyone else ever have this problem?

Experience this many times. Yellow wrasse are well know for burring them selves or hiding for day when they get spooked. Putting your hands in the tank down to scarying it from outside of the tank will send then to hidding in the sand or LR rock. I had a YW that did it all the time until he finally went carpet surfing. Make sure you have good coverage on your tank. They jump alot. Give it time he'll be back out about.

Here is a quote from and article.

Yellow Coris Wrasses require sand as this is where they sleep and will hide when they are stressed or frightened.

Hey thanks. That puts my wife at ease a bit since she has been hounding me about her new favorite fish that has gone missing..

When I recently added another fish - mine who is about 3 inched hid for over a week... Nice active fish in the tank really like ours....

I'm sure he'll surface again. We have one, but he doesn't hide much. Just dives in to the sand at lights out.

Regarding your RBTA...did you place it on the sand? It's not clear to me what you did, so please forgive me if I'm asking a stupid question. But they need some rockwork to attach to and hide their foot.

The RBTA we got from another reefer that had been moved into a container for transportation and for him to recover from a recent split. So we were instructed to put the container in the tank till he came out on his own to not further disturb him I guess. He is out now. And has found a spot at the top of the rock work, with his base hidden and he looks great.

No luck on the wrasse though. Hopefully we will see him soon. Until then we will keep checking the sump and overflow and parameter. Just in case.
