Yah....I bought a cheap ro/di off of ebay. 6 stage, with reserve tank and spigot. It took my city water of 5+ ammonia down to 0. I was just wondering if I can buy the better filters from a different brand. Like is 10 inches pretty much standard. The Ro/Di that I bought looks a lot like all the others. The price of the filters from the other stores will cost more than I paid for the complete 6 stage. But I bet the quality will be better.

I read a thread about someone who bought an RODI off of ebay, but had to switch to better cartridges in order to get TDS lowered. I'm positive he used a brand of cartridge other than what came with the filter. I imagine that the canisters are a pretty much universal size. I would just bring in a cartridge from your new RODI to a LFS and compare.

Thank You.... I thought it might. It was a good deal off of ebay. $99 for the 6 stage, tank, water tap. But if I read here on RC, I probably got one from the filterguys.

Call me crazy, but if it is taking your levels down to "ZERO" what are you worried about. Did you take the water in to have the TDS's tested?

Good quality filters can be purchased from

Good prefilters and carbon blocks are a must, they are what protects your RO membrane so don't skimp on quality of you will be replacing the membrane much sooner. A good vertical DI canister and cartridge that holds 24 oz of DI resin is also a wise investment as it will filter better and last much longer than the smaller horizontal tubes. Filterguys has an add on kit very reasonable.
