Mixed Blessing - Amazon Messed Up My Order

I've been assembling pieces for months now and finally have enough to make my first saltwater reef tank. (My DT has been in the garage for the past several days as I have been painting the back black.)

Today I swapped out the outlet for a GFCI one, and started pulling everything out to install in the sump.

In lieu of a controller, I bought a delay timer -- so my skimmer and ATO could turn on 5 minutes after the return pump (in case of a power failure).

Well, I emptied the box with the delay timer and discovered that they sent me the wrong item! It was labeled delay timer. I had opened it and it looked like an outlet on a cord so I was content. Now that I empty it, I see it is a float valve and outlet for an ATO.

It's a mixed blessing because this is worth more than the delay timer -- but it is a nuisance to not have what I wanted/ordered. :)

Are you going to send it back in? Since you didn't pay for that item it's not really yours.

A lot of times the vendor does not want it back, unless it is a pricey item. They will just reship the correct item.

It is their choice what happens with the incorrectly labelled item. I don't mind returning it. I just want my delay timer!

It was a vendor through Amazon. It is really the vendor's choice -- because I ordered it more than 30 days ago. But it is in their own best interest to take back a $75 item and give me a $50 item.

although not reef related, one time I ordered a dual oil pressure/temperature gauge for my car and I received 2. Tried to return the extra one, but Amazon told me to just keep it.

So, as others said, it's up to amazon and/or the vendor.

The seller sent me the piece I ordered as well as return postage for the ATO.

Nice it all worked out, plus that craigslist find puts you way ahead...nice.

Post some pics as your progress when you get all of this stuff going. Good luck

Did I get something from CL?

I have some pics to share -- I just haven't looked into how posting pics on this forum works yet. :)

My guess is I need to upload them elsewhere and put an image tag here -- and I just haven't bothered doing it yet. :)

Oops wasn't you...lol

I use photobucket to store pics, when I want to post one of them I copy the URL address and boom it goes in the forum.

I've never used photo bucket. My father has a website to share family pics with his sisters. I will use host the pics there. :)
