Mixed media in reactors

Any reason I can't put carbon & a nitrate remover in the same media reactor or GFO and a nitrate remover in the same reactor? I had some hair algae start to appear and finally discovered that my RO/DI water was bad. Changed the filters but while I do a series of PWCs to get on top of it I'd also like to add some nitrate remover to help. My 2 reactors normally have GFO in one & carbon in the other ...
