Mixed reef question

I currently hane a non acro sps dominated mixed reef. Includes some lps and Zoe's. I'm getting excellent growth on everything.

My question- my research tells me adding a Xenia to my tank could hurt my stony growth. I just was given a beautiful blue Xenia and would like to incorporate it into my system. I would like to get the opinion of more experienced reefers if it would be foolish to place it or is the toxicity of the Xenia not as negative as it may be stated.

I'm not looking to hear what I want to hear. I'm realitively new to reefing and am having great success. If it's unwise, I'll take it out immediately.

Thanks for your input.

I have seen many people with mixed reefs who have Xenia and various sps without a single problem. If that is the case then I am screwed because I have a lot of Xenia in my tank with my sps.

Xenia does not seem to be much of a problem with SPS IME, at least chemically. My problem with it is the rate of Xenia growth can interfere with other corals. I regularly harvest Xenia out of my SPS tank.

I would say the bigger problems for SPS in a mixed reef are leather corals. Running carbon and changing it regularly helps if you keep both.

You have to watch over growth of xenia more than chemical interaction. Just keep it trimmed to a small patch and you shouldn't have any problems.

Xenia main issue would be the fast growth rate. I can't see a reason why not to put it in your tank if its something you like.
