you can do it, but IMHO sucha pair just looks weird. I love the black ones, it just looks funny when they are paired with an orange. I am curious to see their offspring though.
Black and White Percula are actually ocellaris so you will simply be breeding different color morphs of a single species. I don't really know for sure what the offspring will look like but I'm sure others here can tell you. I suspect that you will get some fry that are black and some that are orange and possibly some dusky fish.
I have heard that half come out orange and half have the black trait. this is only here say. No one I have talked to has actually raised fry from such a pair
I believe that has been done but it is difficult. A female perc is probably not going to be aggressive enough to get a maroon to submit to her. A female maroon may well kill a perc before they get things figured out. From my understanding it is difficult for a perc to do the appropriate submissive dance and sometimes the maroon will not recognize it and continue to attack the perc.
I think I would leave it to people who have a lot more experience with maroons. It you are bound and determined to try then be sure to read the clownfish pairing FAQ at the top of this forum.
i just said i heard of such parings i just wanted to pair a black and orange, i love the way the black looks and the orange maybe thinking if my new 280 is large enough maybe have a pair of both? or just mix em..
Depending upon your aquascaping 280 is likely large enough to support a couple pair of clowns. They will likely fight if they can see one another so try to provide enough aquascaping for them to be able to find a host that is out of each other's line-of-sight.
Mixing clowns is always a risky proposition but people have successfully done it.
Since maroons are the most aggressive they will be the hardest to do this with.
