mixing grouper

Could you have multiple groupers in one pond. Specifically miniatus, blue spot, and blue lined. Could you keep several induviduals of the same species together?

I won't be able to help with your questions, but people are definitely going to want to know about your system (dimensions of the pond at the very least).

Yes but it is always a risk. Make sure they are close in size. I had a miniatus and panther for a few years.

Minimum size is 10x4x2. It will house 1m and 3f coral catsharks. I may make it bigger, not sure yet. I purchased a baby blue dot grouper 2 weeks ago. Very different than any of the fresh water predators that Ive kept. I can find plenty of info on tank mates for the commonly available groupers, but not much info on keeping mixed species or multiple induviduals of the same species.

You might be ok if they are different enough, I wouldn't house the same species together though. In the past the Miniatus groupers I have had always try fighting their reflections, especially when they get bigger (>7")

Ok so same species is out. You never see pairs for sale. I wonder if I should get the 3 species I want to keep while small and let them grow up together. Sounds like Im playing with fire though.

You might have issues, but it's really hard to say. Very few people keep setups large enough to consider multiples.

I'd give it a try in that size setup, I think. You'll want similar sizes just so they don't eat each other, but I don't think it will matter too much if they are juvenile or adult fish.

Yep. Im trying to get as many opinions as I can before I start construction. Minimum I will build is 4x10x2. If I can have a variety of fish living happily together for 15 years or more in my pond I will be very happy. I have seen territorial aggression first hand with maroon clowns, yellow watchmans and 2 pistol shrimp I tried to pair up. Lost one animal in each case very quickly. I love my blue spot. I wouldnt want to see him shredded in a fight with another grouper. Nor would I want to spend 50 bucks to watch him kill a minatus. But I do have a successful tank with a condy anemone, a tomato clown, a snowflake moray and a very smart mollie. No problems what so ever. The eel comes out the tomato stays protected in his nem, the snowflake knows the nem hurts, perfect situation. The only regret with that tank is I had a power outtage on a really hot day and lost my male clownfish and a cleaner shrimp that the snowflake accepted. He used to open his mouth and let the shrimp clean him. I love this hobby.

I may purchase a small miniatus and a small blue lined and introduce all 3 in a tank at the same time and see what happens. If they fight I have many tanks open to split them up. If it doesnt work out I will take the least aggressive of the 3 and that will be my pond grouper.

how was it?
