When mixing salt i know you need to let it set for a day before. I don't have an extra power head laying around to use so can i use air pumps and an air stone instead. will i get the same results or no?
personally I've never let my salt sit for a day and have never had problems. I just mix with a piece of pvc in a 5 gallon bucket til its clear, give it an extra 10 min of sitting and dump it in after I verify the salinity. I have a hundred gallon system so I dont usually worry about the temp of it and dont see much if any change on my apex for temp.
Once the salinity is consistent you can add it. Different salts do have different requirements. Some don't mix as well. In reality it is probably one of those things where we all have an opinion and none of them matter. Mix the salt to the directions and use it. I've never killed a fish by adding salt too soon, and I've killed a lot of fish...
WoW! that screams to me, "DO NOT TAKE THIS GUYS ADVICE". :eek2: All j/k aside, we have all killed a few fish when we were newbies.
Back to the OP:
Just mix it up till its clear, bring up to temp, dump it in. As long as salinity and temp match, it's pretty safe to use. Some salts have "other" stuff in it and requires a bit more mixing then others, but typically as soon as it's clear it's safe to use
