I did a partial water change in my problematic 25 gal today. I'm using coral reef crystals this salt was baught 7 years ago but the five gallon pail was never opened. salt never goes bad if sealed . I haul this stuff for a living. Well it says 2 cups per 5 gals it took 3 cups to get salinity to between 10.24 and 10.25 what caused this same problem last time I mixed it . I mix it in 2 5gal pails and run a heater and power head in both pails at least 1/2 a day. Whats the problem ?

i thought for 1.022 it was 1/2 cup at least thats the way it works for me on reef crystals

The recipe on the pail is just a guide. Just read your hydrometer or refractometer and add until you get the desired salinity. Target 1.026 for salinity. Usually 1/2 per gallon of water will mix to 1.023 so you'll have to add more to bump it up.

I emailed the people who make IO and RC and they said the expire date is printed on the buckets (not sure where) they said after a while the salt looses its trace elements and some other stuff.
