mixing subspecies of clowns?

I currently have 2 perc clowns and really want a maroon clown. Is this possible or will the two that are in there be too territorial?

in a 75? I wouldnt try it...

maroon is likely to cause trouble.

I've seen multiple pairs in a 4' tank, but its always been skunks and occellaris, or similar, with lots of anemones.

I would not mix them, either. BTW, the two are not really subspecies, but different species altogether (and currently in different genera, too).

They're WAY different species... in fact, among "clown" fish, they're about as far apart on the bioevolutionary branch as possible... maroons are closer to damsels, really, and some books have even listed them as such. Percs are really, really docile, as everyone seems to be saying.

Maybe in a 180...

That is not necessarily true. All clownfish are very closely related to damsels because they are damsels. Although maroons are in Premnas while all other clowns are in Amphiprion, both genera are included in the Amphiprioninae, which includes all species of clownfish. Any book that lists them outside of this is incorrect, IMO.

I have 2 large bubble-tip anemones 4 feet apart and not in sight of each other. I tried adding a small perc to occupy the untended anemone while an established pair of maroons was in the other. The female would not allow the perc to be in "her" tank. I moved the perc after a few hours of protecting it, but the maroon female patrolled the tank for days afterward, looking to finish him off. I'm certain that fish size, baseline aggression levels' and the order of arrival play an important role in "getting along" or not. I've had the best luck adding larger or more aggressive fish to the tank last, but it's hard to know in advance and make sure you have time and a net to pull out the loser if they fight before it's too late.
