MJ Mod Group Order

ask dangerous ace he found like 97% of parts for this mod here in town also a hagen powerhead cover for mech. filtration makes a even better cover/intake for this....I really don't think you need to place and order unless u don't really want to make the mjmod....

Hmm...the main reason I wanted to make the order is so I can have something to compare my mod to, since I have found all the parts locally to make the mod and still have plenty of supplies left over. I have modded a MJ900 and like I said have nothing to compare it to. If someone has an MJ Mod that I can compare mine to that would be great.

Yeah, I've found everything but a centering cap. Where did you find one or what did you use to center it? The more I look at that Hagen powerhead cover, the less I think it'll work. But I think I might have something else unusual to add to it. Just can't find a proper centering cap...

I for the cover I used a PVC coupling and a test cap from HD. I just measured my PVC and marked the middle drilled holes and then inserted a piece of rigid airline and measured the center of that and drilled a hole on one side.

I can try to get some pics up tomorrow at work since I am running linux live now and havent figured how to mount a USB camera.

Here is my MOD. The only thing I dont like about it is the white PVC but nothing a can of krylon fusion cannot fix.

Hey guys,

Im interested in making some of these mods. Is there any chance I can get some help? Im not the handiest DIY'r but i would like to learn how to make these. I have a Dremel and such..

Also, did you guys find the props in town, or order online? I am going to hunt for parts tomorrow.

I found my props and caron fiber rod locally. I got it from southwest hobbies on menaul about 1 mile east of southwest reef co. I got the rest of the stuff from home depot.

kool thank you. Im going part hunting. Maybe we can get a few of these built and give a how to at the next reef meeting.

I dont actually. I unmodded it since I couldnt figure out how to put a stopper in to make it go the other way. And now I just have an MJ 900 and 1200 on a wave timer. I am thinking about ordering an MJMod so I can see how the stopper is done so I can use in on my timer in my tank. If anyone wants I can bring my pvc and prop to the next meeting to see my DIY.

you use a acrylic rod. Drill a hole in the pvc and put about 1/2"-1" of a piece through the hole about 1" from the end. This way if the prop. is spinning the wrong way it hits that rod and turns the other way.

drill the hole for the stopper about 1/8 inch below the top
and insert some acrylic rod that you have rounded off
(this step depends on how you want to implement the
stopper, if you are using the crossbar , you can skip this
step.)

which home depot did you find your test caps at? I also think I got the wrong size rod and prop. I got the smallest South west had but its too big to fit through my magnet.

The test cap I got was the the HD on coors and I40. The diameter of the cf rod is .098 and the prop I got was the Octura 1440 prop but I think my MJ has a little problem with it. I should have tried using the Octura 1435 prop.

What is a mod?

What is a mod?

I see the picture... but what's it for? (We are clearly on different levels of reefkeeping.)

The test cap? Or the Mod?

The test cap is used to hold the PVC onto the MJ.

The mod itself is used to push more water around without the direct stream the unmodded MJ has.

The MJ mod is where you basically convert the impeller driven Maxi-Jet powerhead into a propeller pump, increasing flow from 200 - 300 gph (regular MJ) to 1500 - 2500 gph.

There are quite a few threads about them (the original thread is now a giant) in the DIY forum and Equipment forums.
