MJ MODS are great

I just hoocked up 2 MJ900 w/1600 Sure Flow mods. I like these things a lot. They are half the size of the Tunze 6060 and provide alsmost as much flow. I'm thinking about selling the 6060 and buying 2 more 900's and mods...

Just thought someone would like to know,

i can't even run 2 of the sure flow kits with mj 1200's in my 125 without blowing corals and sand everywhere had to run only one with a korali 4, they are strong wide flow and quiet.

For the money, I dont think they can be beat. I will eventually go with Vortechs because they are adjustable and have backup, but right now, I am glad they invented MODS. I have seen them in action and they rule!

I had the same exact problem, and now have the same exact set-up on mine ;) it atleast tells me I'm doing SOMETHING right.

my 125 is softie tank and everything is doing better with that setup for flow i tried two sureflows and all corals were ****ed at the whirlwind going on plus was to much for my fish.

not unless it is a sps tank, sps would love the flow plus you might want to use mj 900's not 1200's, you never know though depends on how you aim them it might work for ya, unless you have alot of sand.

I have a few grains of sand in there right now and it's all under the rocks because of the flow form the MJ900 mods and the 6060. I may suck thsoe few grains out and just stick with the BB.

This tank will be a mix of everything. I am keeping the stuff I have(SPS,LPS,Leathers, Zoanthids, Shroms) and will be adding more SPS and Zoanthids soon...

I'm not going to use the MJ12 because they draw double the juice for not that much more flow. I like the 900's...

The main reason I want to change the 6060 for the 2 MJ mods is because of symetry in the tank. When I first set up a tank I swore that I will never have a pump visible in the tank but with the last CL being a mess on the last one I had to go with powerheads on this one. If I could find another 6060 cheap then i would keep it. Just thinking out loud here...

Yeah the MJ900 is the best bet for the mods. However, from the very long thread, I think you can get a bigger prop that only the 1200 runs correctly. I could be wrong on that though.

I think use as many as it takes to get the right flow. As your corals grow... so will your PH collection. :) There probably isn't a 'right' way to do it, just one that fits your style and budget more. I don't want a CL (especially after reading your struggles) and small, inexpensive, effective PHs are the option for me right now.

I tried the larger prop on the 900 and it starts rattling after a few minutes for a few seconds and then does it again every few minutes... The flow is greater but the rattling is annoying...

I guess when they say "only for the 1200 model" I should have listened lol

BTW: I noticed that my TUNZE 6060 1600 gph and the MJ900 MOD 1600 gph are not equal. The 6060 is about 15 to 20% stronger.

I'm not sure how they measure flow but someone is wrong...

The measurement of flow from the initial MJ mod testing was pretty suspect- how long to fill a5 gallon 'bag'. Lots of room for error.

I don't know if the raw number is all that helpful- or is the water flow pattern more important. At least that is what the Vortec people claim (Vortec > Tunze at lower gph).

I am not sure thier ratings are exact, but I am sure that it is a ton of flow, for cheap, and maxi jets are very reliable. Can't beat that for the money!
