MJ1200s heating my tank?

I bought one of the power strips that you plug three power heads into and it cycles them. I fried the power strip when my skimmer overflowed onto it shortly after I bought it <long story, don't ask don't tell> anyways, so I plugged the three MJ1200s into a regular power strip so they are running constant, but all aimed towards rocks or glass to diffuse the flow a bit. and this is all in a 55 gallon tank.
I noticed that my tank tempeture started going from 77 degrees at night to 82 at peak during the day. It used to be a pretty steady 78-79 degrees.
Last night I ran my lights a little longer then usual and my tank hit 84 degrees, my watchman gobie informed me of this by leaping from the tank as my wife walked by.

So is it the MJs causeing this heating problem? Should I set them on timers and only run them two at a time, or should I take one out and only run two?

well it is a new T5 set up and I would like to blame the whole heating issue on it, but the fact is this all started before I got my lights. MY lights contribute, but do not cause the whole problem.

So will putting a fan over my tank cure it?

The MaxiJet 1200 is very inefficient compared to the MaxiJet 900. The 1200 moves 295 GPH but draws 20 watts while the 900 moves 230 GPH but only uses 8.5 watts.

AzdesertRat, theyre actually the same pump. One just has a smaller impellar, and restricted intake, IIRC.

That being said, T5s can heat water pretty damn well. Especially if theyre close to the water/you've got glass covers.

I really doubt 60w of maxijets would make all that much difference unless you were already sitting on the edge.

MJ1200s are good for apps where you need a powerhead that will handle some head pressure. For just in tank flow, the MJ900 is a better bet.

Hard to say, without unplugging them for a day. But then again, the weather in California was a lot colder in the previous 3 months.

Have you consider modding one of the 3 MaxiJets, so you would only use one instead of 3? I have a 46 gallon tank with only 1 modded MaxiJet 900. It was tooo strong, so I couldn't leave it on too long. I need to downsizing the propeller to reduce the flow a little bit. There is a thread around here.
