Mods, particularly Geo,
The thread about what other sites do you visit was closed and posts edited. Why? I just read every letter of the user agreement and nowhere does it mention that mentioning other sites is prohibited. I even went so far as to copy it below, I can not see the harm in finding the various places others go. Maybe Geo could grace us with the part of the user agreement that prohibits this. I mean no disrespect, I just think some clarification is warranted.
Bill

Here is the user agreement as posted on 10-7-2007 @ 1:05 am

It's too early to read that,;) but I know it's been in place for a long time. As with all the rules, it was in put in place when people started spamming their websites just to get traffic to their boards. We don't go to our other boards and put links to here and we expect the same.

since im not a mod and im tired of all this bs here it is right here reread this untill it sinks in because all of your whiny questions are covered in this. if you dont like the rules leave and stop causing problems. if you want to fight sack up and go argue with your old lady if you arent afraid of her. my guess is she would send you all to bed without your dinner. not that i agree with everything the mods do...oh wait ive never posted anything thats been removed. i read the damn agreement. as for the direct question read 1 and 4. and concerning the guys at the up north read them all, they have violated most of them. i wouldnt drive there for free equipment, though it was cool they offered it, so i doubt i ever will.

I knew someone would finally say it LOL. I agree with spstimie (well, other than the fight with me wife part, she'd kick my a$$ ;))
We all just need to chill out and use the RMRC forums more. When all is said and done, RC has the right to do pretty much anything they want and if we don't like it, then we have the right to NOT pay to support the board or, if need be, to go elsewhere to chat.

First off, I asked s question of a specific person of a specific group, you yourself admit that you are not part of that group. Butt out, mind your business.
2nd, I re-read as you suggest, and no, it does not mention anything regarding my direct question, so not only are you butting in where you don't belong, but you are WRONG to boot.
I would strongly reccommend that you make sure you have the correct information before you butt in to someone elses conversation. Don't come back w/ a second post saying that you didn't direct something at anyone in particular, it makes it look like your sack just fell off.

Like I said before, this thread does not concern you, so don't post to it. I asked a question, and hopefully the mod that decided to enforce unwritten rules will answer.

Look at this
The moderators can, and will, remove the posting privileges of any person who does not wish to follow the rules, or in the opinion of the moderators is a detriment to the site.
Posting links to another forum is a detriment to the site!

Actually, spstimie, I don't see anything relevant to the question at hand except this phrase:

If, and when, any changes are made, they will appear on this page.

If a rule was made about not posting links to other forums, shouldn't the rule have shown up in the user agreement?

Uh, oh I'm arguing with a lawyer

It says that in the opinion of the moderator. When your trying to get people to leave by posting about other boards besides RC, then that is a detriment to the site.

Bill, you need to relax.

When a moderator says something is not permitted, its a good bet that the activity in question is indeed not allowed. One of two things normally happen when someone has been contacted by a mod. One is the person says "oops. sorry won't happen again."
The other is the person flies into a tizzy, demands proof of said rules and starts numerous threads protesting this site, its moderators and tries to rally as many people as he or she can to "fight the power".

The latter of the two circumstances usually ends up with one or more people removed from Reef Central.

I explained why when I edited the post, and Debi explained it to you in this thread. If you do not like the way this site operates by all means stop visiting. But if you or anyone else thinks they are going to use the forums provided by Reef Central to drive traffic off site you are very much mistaken.

This Sums it up

I like the way Geo handled closing of the thread, he stated why he did it and did not put any of his opinions in t it, and I wish all Mods would to this when the close or remove items from a thread. That way we do not have these long blah blah blah threads. Do I agree with them not allowing a store owner to be able to put in his address or directions to his shop if asked for NO, but again as it is pointed out in bold they can do whatever they want.

If the poster has a issue with it they should then PM the mod and ask why, but not make it a public issue.

does that mean no linking to RMRC's forum?

Of course not. You'll notice that geo did not remove that link. Ive seen several boards that start out allowing them, and come to realize that half of them are just pimping for their own board. Your club board is supposed to be in unison with here. Most of the time I think it does.

If only that were true. People still seem to want a better explanation. Besides how will I get the last word? ;)

geo,
I am not "flying into a tizzy" as you put it. I was confused as to why it happened when it is not mentioned in the user agreement, therefore it is a case of you enforcing an unwritten rule. Period. I am not arguing with you, just explaning my point of view.

I just find it odd that mods are feaking out over threads on our forum, when a few months back, I lived in NYC and frequented one of the local clubs board, also associated w/ RC and there is a mod who is from the area, and a LFS owner had all sorts of posts with pics of his newly re-opened shop, what livestock was there and so on. This mod never did a thing about it, and even posted stating that he could hardly wait to stop by and check it out.
I just don't understand why we are getting hassled for things that are going on on other boards.
I also see references to nano-reef.com on various boards on a constant basis.
I understand you all don't see every thread on the site. I also feel that the reason you guys are watching our forum is that there is some drama going on aimed at the mods and so you have to try to keep some order. I just think if you guys, (mods) did your thing with a bit less of the "because we say so" attitude, there would be a more positve attitude from all. I know where you folks come from, I was a mod on one of the other reef forums I belong to, and I have been either a crew lead, or a supervisor for most of the last 10 years in my industry. It is all in the way the "authority figure" starts off. Respect and explanation, get respect, attitude and bluntness, gets the same and nothing is ever accomplished from the latter.
If it is a rule, so be it. I just hope it is enforced evenly.
I thank you for posting, no hard feelings.
Thanks,
Bill

Well you need to report it then. Believe it or not, we don't notice everything. I asked a guy to remove a sig the other day that had had it for a couple years, and I never noticed it, my attention was drawn to it, and I asked him to remove it. He laughed and took it off. When the mods, such as myself, are here stalking you guys, it's because someone has drawn attention to you. Just because everyone isn't speaking up, doesn't mean they are all happy. We're here because of your own club members, not because we have nothing else to do. We aren't exactly freaking out, we are addressing concerns.
Respect goes both ways, and you guys don't see the lack of it behind the scenes.

I could never be "a rat". People get whacked for that crap!

We won't tell ;) And it's not really being a rat IMO, it's contributing to the community.
