Moisture in stand

I have a lot of moisture under the stand where the sump is located. I bought the stand from Glasscages. I am a little nervous that the wood may begin to mold or rot. I added an 80mm fan to increase air circulation, and it helped a lot. However, the wood still appears moist. I was thinking of buying some water sealant. Is this a good idea?

It is not a good idea to seal try to seal damp/wet wood. That said, if you have the luxury of really getting it dried out, it would certainly help. The only question is if there is an easier fix to the problem like drilling some holes with a hole saw into the stand for ventilation.

First I would try to limit the splashing. If I couldn't do that, then I would line the inside of the stand with some sort of plastic (like a trash bag). Just staple it into place.

I have the exact same problem with my stand from glass cages. I am still decideing on a solution. For now I just pull off the front slide in door during the day to let it dry out. I may cut some side slots to allow for better ventilation at night though. I would reinforce the stand before I started cutting on it because it certainly is not a super sturdy design.

Another option is to to get a computer/light fan and cut a hole in the side of the stand and mount it. Like what you see on light hoods. I did that and it worked good I just did not like the hum of the fan because my tank is in the bedroom and I am a light sleeper.

I covered my sump with a cut-to-fit piece of plexiglass where my return line and skimmer dump out water. That totally got rid of splashing. I also purchased a thin piece of plexiglass that I strategically placed behind the sump inbetween it and the back of the stand where my wall outlet is. This is added protection from splashes.

Also, when everything was dry and before I placed the sump in the stand, I lined the whole inside (walls and bottom) with some of the plastic sticky kitchen cabinet shelving liner. That seems to work really well.
