Me too. I'm a member and I'm heading down there tomorrow.

Yes I am.

I am too. Absolutely.

Does the great white make a lot of money and attract attention? Of course. Is it worth risking the lives and compromising the health (and killing at least one) of an endangered animal to do so?

For starters, their previous white shark survived was released and documented to have been doing well. I have absolute faith that this new one will have a similar fate. Granted a couple of soupfins died but they are a natural food source for the white...

But to answer the question, if the resulting education is able to save at least 2 animals then it's a win. FWIW - The researchers with TOPP believe that they're having a much larger impact that two animals.

Which says nothing about this animal's long term suitability for captivity. How many threads have we all read here at RC where someone says "My (insert animal here) is doing great. I've had it 6 months and it is thriving."? I think it's fair to say that captivity is bad for great whites, compromises their health at best, and risks or ends their life at worst.

A great white also died in transit to the aquarium earlier this year from what I understand.

Hey, I'm with ya! I think just the one great white put an enormous amount of attention and money into ocean conservation. Big thumbs up. The issue I would have with this program is if it turns into a bit of a revolving door scenario where animals are kept until their health is compromised. Would you be comfortable with that?

You never answered my first question by the way.

i went and saw the great white the second day they had it too bad the front glass was shooting bubbles so the shark knew where the glass was

enjoy
