Monthly Photoshoots Anyone?

I was talking to Jim and John (jimsar and piberoptiks) about doing some photoshoots. I like to get out at least once a month, but it'd be awesome if others in the area wanted to get together for photoshoots of different things. I'm sure I can learn a ton from you guys! Any other photographers out there!?

Mr. Ugly brought up a good idea about the next meeting, we could do something on reef photography. We could do a couple tank tours and shoot different people's tanks, share tips and tricks, then put a presentation together to help others shoot pictures of their own tanks.

We don't have to just shoot tanks, I'm actually interested in doing some city/urban shots, landscape shots, macro shooting, etc.

Post here if interested!

I'm thinking of going to the Conservatory of Flowers in GG Park to checkout the plants and also their new Butterfly exhibit as my next stop.

I'm also shooting pictures for a car club, and was wondering if anyone else would be interested in that as well. I need to build a massive reflector though, because there may be some shots where there is a large amount of backlighting.

:D

Good idea Koden. I'm still saving up for my next digital camera purchase.

Hmmmm....fish stuff or camera....fish stuff or camera? lol

I'd be interested - just got a Canon 100mm macro for my Rebel XT. I've had this camera for a while, it's about time I really started learning how to use it well! :)

haha tell me about it. i'm trying to decide whether to purchase a T5/MH combo pendant or a Nikkor 10.5 fisheye lens... they're about the same price. I'm also looking into a $600 flamenco guitar and a new set of tennis rackets... I have too many hobbies!

I'm going to wait for jimsar and piber to post, then we'll start planning it all out.

Pretty much anything. One of the places I've been meaning to go for a long time is the zoo, but all the stuff you listed in your post sounds interesting. :)

Zoo! That would be so fun =) But I don't have the lenses for it =( My film body has a 500mm lens though, which would come in handy, but that body is in the shop.

I'll try to see about those places where you can "rent" lenses. I'd like a nie 700mm lens for zoo shots ;)

:mad2: After taking these shots just now I accidentally dropped my damn Canon 400mm on the floor. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR! :mad2: Gotta take it to the shop for a check-up cause I think I'm hearing something moving inside. :mad2:

Now, all i have left is this damn Quantaray 300mm Telephoto. :mad2:

Yep, ill just take it to the shop on monday and see the damage if there is one...hoping none. :)

I still have this cheapy Quantaray 300mm Macro to use on our Zoo shooting. Also Jimsar has lots of awesome lenses for me to borrow on that day. lolz It will definitely work with my rebel xt if ever though.

Just let me know when and I'll fix my schedule. :)

What are you guys talking about? I've got a Kodak Brownie box camera! :)

For fisheye, Ive got the relatively new 10-20mm Sigma. Awesome lens. Check the reviews in DP Review. Perfect for car shows, Koden.

Koden: Too many hobbies, too little time. Me, too.

John, hope you didn't drop the $3,500 camera body.

I'm so busy these days, I don't think I can join you folks in the next couple of months. Gotta make some bucks to support my vices. I mean hobbies. Sorry. But I'll make time to share the little bit I know, especially with point and shoot digitals. Hate to be a DSLR snob.

Hey everyone: so it turns out I'll be doing a carshoot april 29th if weather permits. I will be shooting for a car club.

They're meeting in berkeley, then driving up highway 1 in marin county to stenson beach. Stops include:

Treasure Island, a park in SF, Vista Points at GG Bridge, Marin Headlands, Sausalito (possibly), and then along highway 1 (any stopoffs), stenson beach.

If anyone's interested let me know =)

Tank Tour/Photoshoot 1: Sunday May 13th

This will be the first tank tour / photoshoot session. We'll need to select an "area" first, then start finding out who'd like to go on the tour and who'd like to go shooting.

Out of the following areas, please recommend one:
Alameda / Oakland
San Francisco (Penninsula)
South San Francisco (Daly City, Pacifica)
Marin County
North Bay (Pinole, Hercules, Napa)
Inland (Concord, Walnut Creek)
Central Bay (Pleasanton, Hayward, etc)
South Bay (Fremont, San Jose)

After we've found a good area, we should move onto who's available for the tank tour.
