Monti Bugs Help!

Hello everyone,

I seem to have some sort of back bug crawling on lots of my monties. They are tiny, the size of a grain of salt. The affected monties have very very poor PE and some are even starting to STN.

At first I thought it was sediments settling on the caps and being moved around by my powerheads. I pulled a cap out of the tank and they were still moving around. So they are bugs...question is, what are they and how do I get rid of them?

I'm thinking about dipping every coral.

Here are some pics

Thanks!

Ive used CoralRx and it didnt kill them, i still have them and have dipped over and over again, with no luck.

I would look into interceptor.

yeah so, i've been doing a lot of reading and it looks like I will indeed be making a pit-stop at my local vet :-)

Good quick read... http://www.garretts-acropolis.com/Quarantine_info.htm

"Black spot Montipora feeding amphipod, to the naked eye they look like a black speck. They only affect Montipora species and in my option they are not life threatening to the coral but they do affect its growth and often its color. Do not confuse them with the other larger copepods swimming in your system, these ones are about the size of a hair follicle, or sharp pencil dot. They can swim if disturbed. Dipping the coral in an Iodine solution seems to not affect them at all. The only way to get rid of them is by using Interceptor, just like for the red bug treatment."

I have a sixline and had a BAD problem with the monti nudi's. frag if you can and move them to a different tank. I would go with a yellow coris or a melenarus rather than a sixline.
