monti cap frags

So I was breaking down a tank yesterday and it had a 3 layer Idaho Grape Monti in it, long story short, it is now in about 10 pieces. I plan on putting these on some frag plugs/discs, but in the meantime is it ok to just let these sit in the sand? Or is there a better way to mount these? or just sell them as a piece, not attached to anything?

Anything that I let sit in the sand ends up reseeding. Personally when i break mine up, I just throw the pieces back into the "Cup" of the cap. The can sit in there for a week or two before they grow into a big clump.
