Monti Caps. turning purple

Odd thing happening right now, I have a pile of purple Monti Cap frags from a colony that got broken up in a move... and a few others that I have been trying to grow out, they WERE Salmon/Peach colored, and one Red. But in the last couple of days they are all turning purple... (I do have a LOT of larger 6-8" pieces (purple) in the tank from the mother colony). The ones on the frag rack I can sort of understand adopting the new color, but others are nowhere near any other pieces and are doing the same thing. They are all healthy and growing like crazy.

Any ideas why this is happening? Hoping my green monti's don't turn purple too!

120 views and no ideas? The purple color is marching on and just about over taken them now..

Someone elsewhere mention phosphates may play a role on coloring... the absence or presence doing different things... haven't found anything to sustantiate this.

I've had some surprising color morphs with Montipora colonies - any change in lighting or traces and they will shift dramatically. I had what I wrote off as brown caps before on pure T5 (everything else was colorful!) suddenly go to fluorescent green under LEDs.

That is crazy, never heard of that. You should document it with lots of photos. Then put the two that morphed into a seperate tank with different lights. See if they stay purple.

Not sure if they are still adopting the new color or just slowing down... pretty wild stuff. The only thing that has changed is the amount of vinegar being dosed... but still pretty minimal (26ml/day)

I got a superman montipora (purple with red polyps), came from a ulns and illuminated with t5, I have something more nutrients and LEDs. Step to be completely red.

Well, we know zoox are primarily responsible for the colors we see. So perhaps there's some change going on there. I had teal LPS candy canes right next to some neon green varieties. The teal colored specimins picked up neon centers very quickly.

I ascribed it to a transfer of some zoox. Just a guess, but maybe that is happening in your case.

So funny thing, I'm googling because literally the same thing is happening with me and I fall onto this thread and find its a brand new thread. I'm about to take some photos and post pics of my green monti turning purple in the center.

Not sure if you can tell, but it originally browned out in the center, the new outer growth was green but now the part that browned out appears to be turning purple.

I have one that was sky blue at the shop , turned purple in days in my tank. I think purple is montis acro equivenlant of brown acro

Oddly enough the purple has stopped overtaking the red and other colors.... left them with a marbled appearance now... i wil k try to get a good tomorrow when all the lights come back up. Meanwhile I am just going to sit back and enjoy the show as there isn't jack I can do about it otherwise...
