monti eating nudi's

I dont mind adding a few wrasses to my tank... (most look good and swim a lot and that makes a tank nice to look at)
but i still think that dipping would be the right thing to do....

Im sure the wrasses eat every buy the see, but they dont go looking in holes and crevices for eggs... (if they do, then thats cool!!!)

I have seen that some pool stores carry the chemical online, so im just going to check my local ones to see what they have.
(i never got an answer if the H2O3 would do the same thing? (hydrogen peroxide)

In my experience yes, they are more active at night.

i have never seen a MEN during the day, unless one of my lights is off or a coral is shaded.

They hang out under the coral at night and usually eat the monti from underneath, and then when no flesh is left, they come on top of the coral, so by the time you see them, the coral is really stressed..... (i usually notice them by small bleached spots on the topside of the monti.)

Eggs are super small and hard to see. (i have scrubbed the bottom of my corals before and they still come back, so they can lay eggs in the pours of the plug as well....

(by the way, i just threw 4 corals in the trash because they were pretty bad, and i didnt want to mess with them......

i only have a few more left and i will just start over with monties...

will the wrasse just keep them at bay or eradicate them....
its not that i dont want to see them, but i want them gone and dont want to be that person that spreads them to others.....

ok heres my story, i got those type of nudies really bad, all my monties where beign eaten, i removed all of my monties from the tank and gave them to a friend for safekepping, we manually removed as much of the nudies as possible, after a while i decided to put them back in my tank because i did not see any of them, after a week they came back, doing some research and talking to a couple of frienda that got them, told me about this wrasse, they also said that it ate planaria, flatworms, zoa spiders and some small crustaceans, with nothing to loose i decided to put one in, and low and behold it did not only erradicate the nudies, it also ate flatworms, i have not seen any in some months and the best part is that the fish costs around 20 bucks, try it out, hope it works for you, and its better than loosing your corals to a harsh chemical, good luck

I think I found an easy way to find the egg sacks. I dipped my orange monti and started inspecting it . I only had my actinics on but what i found was the egg sacks glow a floresent green. I scraped the with a knife dunked it, and finished it with a toothbrush. Let me know what you think.

Found a few more by using the actinic. Checked it with a flashlight and they are harder to see. Using the actinics to check for eggs is the way to go.

the upside down mascot is from april fools..

i have scraped eggs and dipped, and had them keep coming back....
but if you pull your coral and dip 2 times a week, then maybe you can kill them before they start reproducing. just keep it up for a month and keep an eye on them....

(of the 4 i threw away, 1 i was able to break a piece off of and dip and hopefully save it...) only time will tell

Can you elaborate on what type of chemical this is, and what its commonly used for.

That way I can look into getting some.

Also, can you elaborate on the process. How much water, how much chemical and how long of a dip.

I don't remember where I read this, but I used 50mg/l for one hour. If you know someone in the pond hobby KMNO4 is used as a plant dip to kill snails.

I can't believe 2 full pages on this and not a single person has said radiant wrasse.

Several others have been mentioned.

6-line? I've never ever heard of one eating MENs.

Yellow coris? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Melanarus? Those are more reliable.

Green coris wrasse would be 2nd best easily.

Radiant wrasse by far is the most reliable and well-documented hunter of MENs. Will they entirely wipe them out? I don't know. But your montis will grow and be colorful again, and isn't that what counts?

Anyone getting monti frags should dip and toothbrush-scrub automatically.

Anyone keeping montis, in my book, should keep a radiant wrasse. Plus, gorgeous fish! Get a pair, you won't be disappointed!
