Monti or LPS?

Hey all. I don't frequent these forums. On our local board we are debating the identification of this coral. Its being sold as a montipora but looks like an LPS to me. I think its either a cyphastrea or a lamellosa chalice. Figured the kind folks here could help end the debate.....

THANKS!:crazy1:

I'm an expert by no means, but that said I just did a search for pictures of all in question and I can say that to me it looks more like a lamellosa chalice

Thanks I said it's not a monti and I got shot down lol. I got sold a "monti" early on in my reef career and it turned out to be a meteor shower cyphastrea. Still have it and it's a nice colony now. Keep the comments coming.....:thumbs up:

Montipora aequituberculata?

Based on the size, shape and density of the coralites I would say it is likely a montipora. Cyphastrea are characterized by conical calyx (the area that houses the polyp) those look more flat to the surface. The poplyps coloration, size and shape do not resemble many of the common chalices, but chalice is a clunky term that incorporates several genus. Just my opinion

Not feeling the monti thing. Polyps appear too elongated IMHO.
To me it almost screams chalice... then again I'm not really big on chalices so what do I know? Lol first thing I thought when I saw the pic was it looked just like a Hollywood Stunner as far as growth not color.

Cmon pat. Def not a cyphastrea... Ever seen a cyphastrea that wasn't smotth between the coralites? There are bumps all over this thing

better yet, what is sometimes mistaken for cyphastrea... answer... astreopora. Forgot about that one and Bob and I were just discussing a few weeks ago..
