i got this piece from a LFS,he has had it for years grown from a little nub into a huge colony.for a while i thought it was a blue digi but after talking with the store owner he believes it is a porities.either way it doesnt matter as it is a wonderful looking piece.so what do you think digi or porities.BTW the branches are about 3/8-1/2" in diameter.

i have both a porites and a digi and that looks more like a digi just based on the way the polyps look. sorry i cant give you a more scientific answer. maybe you should take a pictures with all the polyps closed. can you see a distinct line separating each polyp unit?

i am fairly sure it is porities but i kind of want to see what Jamie thought.to get a pic with the polyps closed id have to disturb the coral and i hate doing that.

The two genera are very difficult in general, and in fotos can look very similar. The growth habit of your coral is typical of Porites in that it is more sinuous than a Montipora. Also, the corallites are not evenly distributed, which you would not see in M. digitata or M. samarensis. Seeing the coral with closed polyps would help, but I would tip on it being Porites attenuata or P. porites.
