Monti trouble

I have 4 pieces of red monti cap and every one is starting to get white spots and spreading in the middle. I recently changed my salt from reef crystals to Red Sea coral pro. Tank has been running for 2 years.

Red Sea and salfert test kits:

Cal-450
Mag-1500
Alk- 8.0-9.0
Salinity- 1.026
Nitrate-0
Phosphates-0

Does anyone have any clue or any help on what's going?

This could be either sediment damage due to detritus settling on your coral and staying there due to lack of flow, or montipora eating nudibranches (have you recently added any montipora corals to your display tank?).

I am not an SPS expert , in fact still in a kindergarten stages as compare to all of your out here. but I want to share a little of my knowledge, perhaps this may give some help or corrected by the expert here.

I believed the changing of the salt from reef crystal to red sea coral pro. since Red sea coral pro give a much highier KH value. I say this because it happened to my Acros and Digi, that they prefer low KH specially like yours, my nutrient (no3, po4 ) both zero. I have change my salt now to Red Sea Salt (the blue bucket).

Just a piece of my sharing!

Merry Christmas to All!

No I havent bought any new montis. Bought all 4 together ate once and they were doing great and growing like crazy until recently. My alk was a lil lower before I got the Red Sea salt due to not having any more test kits left and I had to wait until I recieved new ones before I started adding more alk. I'm guessing jumping up alk and mag quick did this.

Do you think it will grow back or should I cut pieces off?

Thanks for all the replies and merry Christmas

I have cut the affected part of my Acros and it stop the STN.

But recently, the past few days, I have adjusted the light to a bit lower intensity , last night i observed some RTN :(

SPS is something that does not like to switching from one to the other, be it water parameter, light and flow. On the bright side, I am learning more of its charasteristic.

cheers.
