montipora black bugs??

Any info on these? Harmless not harmless?

I have quite a lot, across various digitata colonies. They particularly seem to like the underside areas especially around growth tips, so I suppose it's possible to be on my plates too (I just haven't spotted them)

I will try but they are a good distance away into the tank, and I have no macro lens. I also not uploaded pics on here before.

The best description I can give is less than 1mm in length. They would look similar to the fines from rowaphos if they get into the display, which since I don't use rowa or any gfo anymore, not this.
I would say smaller than acro red bugs, maybe half to 2/3rds the length

Black bugs

I can tell you this from experience get a small 1" or slightly bigger 6 line wrasse I had black bugs on a seasons greating monti cap looked like pepper on it, and was considering Interceptor when someone suggested I try a 6 line. I was sceptical at first untill 5 days later when I could not find one anywhere. Never seen one since then. Get a small one for the reason they are too small to eat most prepared foods so they will be hungry, and they will not be aggressive. In my experience it was amazing how fast the black bugs disappeared. I also had several reefers verify my results from beginning to end. I know all fish even of the same breed can act differently, but in my experince this worked great.

best of wishes

I've seen those once. I discovered them on a fairly new orange digi frag I had. I decided to take no chances, and threw the coral in the trash. They never appeared on any of my other montis so I guess I caught them in time.

Not that I know for sure if they were even harmful.

Good luck photographing them! They're smaller than a redbug, like you said. Too small to describe as anything but tiny back specks, moving around.

I tried yesterday to get a pic, no chance, impossible task without a macro.

Wrasse are on the agenda anyway as I just cannot 100% eradicate nudis, even when I did a strirct dip scrub and milliput the basal loss on eggcrate racking away from live rock. Digitata is free of them though, so I am ruling out a similar relationship as red bug and aefw have (predictor and prey it seems)

Though tbh, I would prefer to avoid sixline/mystery types due to aggression in the long term, catching the clever little sods is not easy

Interceptor is near impossible to get into the UK unless you have a friendly vet in tow. Fwiw I used cuprazine on my acropora against the red bugs (I believe it worked as was 3 months ago) (no acro weren't impressed much)
