Montipora Capricornis

Hi,

My reef tank has mostly softie's in at the moment with the exception of one LPS - Hammer coral which is thriving & has been for a good 4 months! I would love to put a piece of Monipora Capricornis in as it looks amazing in my opinion but I'm not sure what lighting it requires.

I currently have 1 x 150w Aqua Medic with 2x Actinic 20w so all in all 190W of light - is this sufficient?

If this is not strong enough are there any other "plate" like coral's similiar to Monti Capri that I could use?

Many thanks.....

My monti cap has done super in my mixed reef with a lot of softies and LPS. Your light should be fine for it -- monti's don't require the high lighting that many other SPS do. Try the orange cap first as it seems to do best for me in a variety of conditions.

Thanks, a worker at the LFS I'd need over 250w but I'd read that 150+w would be fine so I'm a bemused. What lights are you running & is the Orange Cap the easiest to look after??

I had an orange monti cap in my tank under 130 watts of PC lighting and it did pretty well. Got decent growth out of it. Now that I have it under 250W of MH lighting, it's practically jumping out of the tank with growth, so it's definitely happier now, but it was still doing ok under the lower watts of PC's.

thanks dave so 190w im pretty sure it'll do ok given the correct water parameters! Thanks. Any other suggestions would be a great help from anybody, thanks
