Montipora Dominated Tanks

I have a small tank that I've had success with the few monti species I've had and started thinking why stop there so I've decided to go all in and load it up with montis instead of acros. Anyone else doing this? Anyone have any favorites they think i can't leave out? Lay it on me.

I wouldn't say my tank is montipora dominated but I do have the classics: undata, sunset monti, jedi mind tricks and setosa. They are yet to be photo worthy except for the undata, which is the size of my hand. Those things grow fast!

It would be really cool to see an entire tank covered in montis, wrapping all of the live rock and if barebottom, covering the ground.

hi,
my tank is full of big montis, thats the reason why i call it The Montipora Mountain :bum:
the 'moutain' in the middle of the tank grows once a year to the surface and then breaks down partly for some reason and starts to grow back to the surface year for year... i like the more natural look of such tanks.

Am.Gee that looks great! Exactly what I had in mind. I'm going to be copying your style. Anyone else doing it?

thank you and feel free to copy that. in all my tanks i had so far i always followed this philosophy:
take some corals, just a few, let them grow, make some frags of them and put those frags somewhere else in the tank, even there, where you cannot see them and then, you guess it, let them grow.... until they reach the surface.

Am.gee I'll get some soon I have them all in the shade right now acclimating to my lights. When I get them out and placed I'll definitely post some.

Hey guys, I wanted to bump an old thread. am.gee, I would love to see some updated photos of your tank. Also, would like to see some tank shots of anyone else who has a Monti dominated tank.

I am planning out a build that I want to start this fall for my birthday. The tank will either be my current 90g (10 years old) or preferably a 150 tall. I want to do something "different" and was inspired by "Model 15" in a book published by Tullock. In this model he recommends a tank dedicated to a harem of royal grammas and corals limited to montipora. I am strongly leading this way!

Please inspire with photos!
