Montipora growing on back wall...

So, I have two large Monti Caps that have grown on and up the back wall of my tank. Their diameter is probably 1' to 1.5' ea.

They are beautiful but they are absorbing precious real estate so I'm thinking of fragging a little.

I have never physically examined to get my answer, so I'll ask here.

Are the areas of the Caps that are growing on the back wall REALLY affixed to the wall? Or will they pull off the wall safely and easily when coaxed to do so during fragging? I'm pretty sure ill have to chip it off, damaging it beyond use, but I figured I'd ask here before I go at it and hope my presumptions were proven wrong. ;)

Thanks!

i had the same thing with a cap growing on glass, used a razor blade and it came straight off in one piece

Wow! That is great news that it MAY peel off the wall in at least 1 piece! Yup, they are fragile suckers, but I'll go at it gently and maybe have usable pieces.

Thanks everyone for their replies

Some come right off and others can be a nightmare! I still love having them grow on the walls though. Looks sweet!

Mine came off with wiggling previously. Just make sure you are gentle with the mother colony as you don't want to break it!
