My first night running moon lights and my zoa's start open all night is this beneficial to them our do they need to close.

are moon lights a good thing for corals and fish or is it just for us.

Greatly depends on the spectrum, intensity (preferably variable in coorelation with the phases of the moon) as well as other factors including species, etc.

I can have either one of the below leds as moon lights or a default channel which I believe is combo of both, I have them set at 5% intensity

Cree XT-E Royal Blue 450nm 3.3W each
UV-A 400nm & 420nm 3W each

If they simulate moon cycle you should have a timer and you can set for 4 - 6 hours, like coralreefdoc said.
If they don't have the moon cycle, and it is only a normal light fixture, you should enjoy once an a while, sure. I don't see any problem with that. Make sure you don't leave it on every single day for the whole night period.

I have a moon cycle for many years and never noticed anything different nor spawning. I probably did have zoa spawning in the past, because I've seen polyps "born" in different locations, but didn't see the spawning. :(
Some times the polyps can drift and attach to a substrate, so I can't say for sure that was a spawning event.

I believe a moon cycle could be beneficial to all the inhabitants of the tank.

Have fun!!

i have used moon lights for years and never had any ill effect. i do agree that everything could benefit from a timed moon cycle though if done properly. the closer you can get your tank to the real ocean the better.

It is a pacific sun led I have set the sunrise sun set options but it appears you can't set times for on/off all you can do is adjust the intensity of the moon lights I can have them at 0%

You can have proper moon phases you input what part of the world your in and when your last full moon was

in my tanks that are against the window, the shrimp in it spawn, while they do not in my other tanks away from the window.

ever since I placed a tunze moon light [came with the controller] the shrimp in my SPS tank also started spawning ! so I think its a good thing.

no change in corals though.
