Moray Eel not eating! Need help.

Hello everyone,

I have a Goldentail Moray Eel that I have had for almost 2 years now. He has not been eating for the past couple months. Now I know they go on hunger strikes and he has in the past which is fine. However it seems he's losing weight and his skin is become more wrinkly then before... I've tried feeding frozen shrimp, Calamari, and mussel... not sure what else I can try... He doesn't eat live food. I know that because he lives with cleaner shrimp, clownfish, hermits and what not. Never have shown an interest and it's been like that for as long as I've had him.

If anyone has any experience or suggestions on what to try I'd appreciate it a lot!

Thanks in advance :fish1:

I was told he was about 4 years old when I got him so I was told. And he wouldn't ever eat a goldfish... My clowns are like 2 inchs and swim around him. He doesn't care.

They have a low metabolism, so they don't need a lot of food. Mine has skipped food for over 3 months without any problems.

My Gymnothorax Undulatus went for as long as 6 months without eating. After the first time he did that I stopped worrying about it. He lived to the ripe old age of 25.

Try a variety of whatever from the seafood counter at your local people food store. The lady behind the counter would save things that were a few days past their "sale date" for me and let me have then at a rather sharp discount. That helped a lot considering he would generally eat 3+ pounds of seafood a week.

Appreciate the responses. He's been eating shrimp, calamari mainly, tried some squid and mussel with no success... And I'm not concerned of the fact he's not eating. He's done it in the past and I haven't been worried. Just this time he appears to be losing a lot of weight.
