Coloration looks kidako-esque, or perhaps a G. richardsonii (which would be awesome!), but the eyes don't appear to match either. Can you take a clearer picture of the head?
Edit - it might just be that the photo is blurry but the pattern looks more like snow flake patches than dots, the latter being present on Gymnothorax eurostus but not the former; just my take.

Sorry to resurect the this thread, but did you ever figure out what this guy is? Any more pics?

Unfortunately not. This was an ID for someone else from another forum. I'll contact him to see if he's found anything new, but he never sent new/better pics....
The part I left originally, was the eel was only $40 (Guy paid $80 for him and a 11" Snowflake as well ($40 ea.)). I think that eliminates a lot of options. I've heard of a ~$45 Blackspot Angelfish bought as a $6 chromis, but a $900 Kidado I just don't believe turns into a $40 Misc. eel. That being said, I don't think it's G. Eurostus, the pattern does look more snowflake/webbed/marbled/etc, then spots. With a lot of Muraenidae not even having pics on Fishbase, I personally would write it off as one of the oddballs that happened to come in.
