Question, I just found out that a friend has two clowns she's selling, do you think it would be okay to add to my tank today since I just added my two yesterday? I don't want to make everyone mad, but I really want them have them, any opinions?
Long term it won't work as one of the pairs mature. One pair will kill the other, especially after bonding, and even more likely after spawning. The success rate of more than two clownfish is very uncommon, even in large aquariums.
I will just echo what was said and what everyone else will say. 95% of the time you will end up with just 2 clowns once they mature. I know plenty of people who try and I only know of a few that have had long term success. Keep your tank calm and peaceful. Only stick with 1 pair of clowns.
I keep 3 single different species of clowns, to me success is when you introduce them at the same time and almost same size. Some species get along better than others.
+1 with all the above.....IME I've only had success with multiple clowns (had 8 at one time in same tank) when all clowns were from same clutch and same size, so basically they already "knew" each other
I have 4 clowns in my tank for a while now. So far no problems (fingers crossed!). Each pair has their own territory on each corner of the tank. Two have already paired up. The other two are still singles. Their sizes are from 2-4 inches. Are they considered mature?
