Can someone shed some light on this?
I have an Ecotech MP-40. It’s less than a year old and runs perfect. So we decided to get a second for the tank which is mostly SPS.
The second one we purchased was very loud and the wet side would not align. We invited several members to try their skill at aligning it and after 4 people and many failed attempts we sold it. We did try everything even switched out wet sides.
Now fast forward six months. We spent nearly 1K on a few SPS colonies and decided it was time to get more flow. Here is where I made a mistake.
I purchased another MP-40. My odds are not in my favor. The new MP-40 is so loud compared to our older one. Maybe it just needs to break, ok we can give it that time. But that’s not all. This one won’t align either and if we get it close, once the speed goes up and down a few times, it starts making that death rattle noise again until we spend a lot of time trying to get it aligned again.
Called Ecotech and they charged us a $1 to send a new wet side under warranty. Not a big deal to spend a buck to get it working. The new one arrives and a week later we try and install it time permitting. Once installed, we started up the controller and the wet side spun so fast and then did a hard stop. Turns out the nut was stripped and the magnet became welded to the plastic from spinning so fast. Product failure right off the back.
It seems that when we switch wet side with the one from our current perfect running mp-40, it aligns ok.
The wet side on the new one has a lot of play. It seems that the plastic screw that holds the magnet to the propeller wobbles a lot in the wet-side frame. Could be that the wet drive shaft is too small for the wet frame.
Anyways that is one issue. Here is the other.
We have ½ thick glass. We set the spacing to that. With this new one we found it does hold better and makes less noise (external drive) if we set that spacing to 3/8.
EchoTech wants me to send in the unit again but this will cost me another $15. It’s only money right??
Why can’t they just send me a new one with a return label like they did the wetside?
Can anyone give me feed back on things to try?
