Is there an easy way to get your AGA overflow to pull more water from the tank?

I have a Mag 9.5 as my return pump but I have it ball valved off because it pushes water back to the tank faster than the overflow can remove it.

I was not sure if you could just make the slots in the overflow bigger by drilling holes. Any easy fixes?

Is the Mag 9.5 actually filling the overflow slots totally to the top?

I think what you are asking is. Have I tried the Mag 9.5 not bll valved off with the overflow the way it is?

I have not tried that long term because I was afraid the tank would overflow. I think the AGA corner overflows are only rated for 650 GPH.

I've heard of people using a dremel to widen the slots to get more flow. The guy that designed my sump/fuge suggested to do that if the flow didn't keep up with the pump.

I cut every third tooth out of the grate at the top.

Lobster. Did any fish or snails make there way into the larger holes?
