This may seem like a strange question, but in people's zoanthid experience, do most grow faster with very high quality water ( No nitrate, no phosphate, well filtered with carbon, skimmer etc. ) or a more nutrient rich water with foods that the zoas might ingest which might not be quite are pure.

I would have to say both at the same time.

Zoas look their best with proper parameters- 0 amonia, no2, no3, phos, and suficient lighting, but need nutrients (disolved organics/food) to grow well.

I would have to say a great filtration system/tank husbandry and heavy feedings would be ideal for the best growth and apearence of zoas/palys.
