More Octopus questions...

I think I have a baby O. vitiensis - a Fijian Octopus. It may even be a baby O. cyanea. Both are common were I live. Sorry no pics!

He is only about about an inch in diameter when he's in a ball. He is very cute!

My questions are:

How big will this little guy get?
Would he go alright in a reef tank?

At the moment he is a little isolation tank eyeing off a baby mantis shrimp for his lunch!

Thanks,

Hi

vitensis gets to be 6cm long in the mantle and arms of 20cm... cyanea's mantle can reach 16cm and arms of 80cm... quite a difference in size :)

There are very probably many species your octo could be, did you catch it yourself and where is it from? 9oh, pics would help too :) )

As far as reef life is concerned, that will be okay but it will certainly eat most moving things in the tank and may disslodge things like corals when it rearranges its home...

Thanks for that.

I will see if I can get a piccy of him today.

When you say he will eat most moving things, does that mean fish? Would eat even if he was well fed, or do they just eat when they are hungry?

Sorry to ask the dumb questions. I really like octopus, but I don't want him to pick off all the prizes.
:eek1:

Thanks,

P.S: Scotland hey? Your country is very beautiful!

Octomonkey,

Well it's all academic now, poor little guy died this afternoon.

:sad1: :sad1:

By the way, I did collect him myself. I found him 'sun baking' on the aluminum seat of our boat - not a good way to start off our friendship especially as it is so here now.

Some cruel people have asked when to add the chilli and
garlic:mad:

But I thank you for your answer to my questions.
