More questions...sorry...pumps this time!

OK...AGA 120g with 2 megaflow overflow boxes...Will the Quiet One 3000 (480gph @ 4' head) be enough...or would I be better off with a different pump? I will also be using at least one Tunze 6060 in the tank...

Don't want to use an external pump...would be easier for me to have it sitting in the sump...sump/refugium will be a 40g Breeder...going to set it up like this...

Was thinking either Quiet One 4000 (750gph @ 4' head) or the MagDrive 9.5 (800gph @ 4' head)

Any sugestions? If the QuietOne 3000 isn't enough are either one of the pumps above decent choices? If not...what would be? Trying to keep the pump price at a max of $100 if possible...

Thanks again all! Promise these questions will end soon!!! :D

You want about 5x tank volume through your sump so you want to be around 500-600gph through your sump.

I run a Mag 9.5 on my 180g.

Thanks B! Sounds like I stick with the Quiet One 3000 for now...if it seems a little low I can always buy a new pump then...

I haven't had a submersible return in awhile. The quiet one 4000 sure looks nice for electrical consumption, and price. I have no clue what kinda track record they have. I've had mag's, genx , sedra, and eheim in the past. Eheim gets great reviews, and I had no issues. They are almost double upfront.

100w sub pump is like running 100w heater 24/7, so if you expect heat issues this is something to take the time to consider.

Honestly I usually run a little lower flow through my sump, since pumping water UP is not very energy efficient. I only run between 2-3x through my overflows but run a powerhead in my sump to keep things flowing.

Depending on your preferred tank setup, and husbandry that method does work well. If I was ever going to do another DSB tank I would probably shoot for what my skimmer can process per hour as a minimum for return flow.

MJ...the picture of the sump was just taken from melevsreef.com, it is his "model F" sump...I am having a local glass company cut the baffles for me...

not sure what I am going to do about the "teeth" on the refugium side...was thinking about cutting teeth in a 3" x 17.5" piece of Acrylic and epoxying it to the glass baffle...

I am just not ready to pay $300 to $400 shipped for a sump! So...got to Macgyver the 40g Breeder to work!

Scott...hadn't thought about the watts problem as yes heat will be a problem during the summer months...the QuietOnes are much lower watts than the MagDrive pumps for the same GPH...the MagDrive 7 is 95w with a 480gph flow @ 4' compaired to the QuietOne 3000 of 40w with a 480gph flow @ 4'
