More than One Angel Fish In Same Tank?

I was just wondering what the rule is to Angel Fish in one tank. I have a "soon-to-be" reef tank. I have just finished cycling the tank, and did a water change, and I now have my three old fish in the new tank... A blue hippo tang, gold stripe maroon clownfish, and a damsel fish (not sure of what kind).

I would like to know, when, and how many angel fish I'd be able to keep in the tank. The tank will have LPS in it when the time is right. I'm also going to be adding only Juvi. Angel Fish, No adults... but, what will happen when they do become adults?

thanks,
Kevin

how about a pair of bellus angels? they're reef safe and it's really nice to have a male and female. Also, if you already have that juvi imperator that's in your avatar it should be fine. Right now i have a regal angel, imperator and flagfin. They seem to be doing fine, but still they're fairly small. I'm thinking of adding a pair of bellus and maybe bandit angels(if i can find any) I'd also like a blue face...maybe.

yes, blue face angels are really cool...

Also, my tank is 210 gallons, and as i said before, I'm going to have LPS coral in it, no SPS whereas I am not using MH lighting.

I still havent really gotten a clear answer as to what the rule is, so if you could help, please do.

That's because there is no rule. Every fish is different, some may have luck with mutliple angels, and others may not using the same angels. I had a juvi emperor and queen that were the best buds. I added in a larger gray angel and my emperor did not like him. I have seen tanks with many multiple angels (most were bigger then 210g) but it can be done. Best thing to do is, when you go to add the angels, add least aggressive first, usually smallest first as well. Also, be prepared for the worst but hope for the best. If you have a problem, make sure you have a seperate tank or means to seperate the two or more fish peacefully without them killing each other. What angels were you specifically looking for? Hope this helps.

It's been a while since I've been active on this board and I don't remember the names...but I know there are a number of reefers keeping the larger angels together. It seems like one may have been LargeAngels (?)

I think adding juveniles together can be problematic if they are the ones that look similar like the one in your avatar.

One thing I know is your tank should be arranged so there are plenty of hiding places and swim throughs. I'd also say you should try to have the rock as free standing as possible with very little rock touching the back of your tank

Here are my babies - there was also a Singapore not in the pic

I have a Flame Angel and a Singapore Angel in mine and they are fine. The first week the Flame would chase the Singapore when he swam near it, but that has stopped. It's been a month now. I had the Flame for about 9 months. I QT'd the Singapore for a month and made sure he was eatting really well and that seamed to work. Compatability kindof depends on the fish. Try to mix the types (1 - Dwarf, 1 - Full Size, etc.). I've also had multiple Genicanthus Angels (Watanabei & Black Spot) and they were fine. HTH

Each fish is going to be different, so there are no hard and fast rules -- so if you do go with more then one, think about how you will remove one if needed.

Now with that out of the way....

For a couple of years I kept a lemonpeel and a flame angel together. Besides the first day or two there were no issues. Ended up moving the lemonpeel to another tank because he was nipping at my SPS.

In that other tank was/is a juvi blue face -- WWIII. Lemonpeel was sold. About 6 months about I moved my flame to the tank with the blue face -- wasn't even an issue on the first day.

Can see them both in this picture. I wouldn't say they are "buds" for the most part they act like the other one isn't in the tank.

I have bi-color, flame, & coral beauty and do they quite well together. (in a 240g.)

I'm not going to mention what everyone have already said but would like to add that rock work is very important as when there's a pursuit going on you angel has an escape path. My FAs will have their moments but nothing more than showing who's the boss.

Secondly you're not going to know till you add them. I'd a juv blueface added couple of weeks after I had the juv emperor in and I thought for sure there was going to be trouble but they have never chased each other since they been in the tank. The will swim by the other and kind of ignor the other as if it was not there. When I feed nori and live clams they will not fight but inch in and the other one will move away.

A picture is difficult to show their interaction so here's a short video and please excuse the wiring mess in the back as I'm still working on bringing the tank back down to the basement.

You have a big enough tank to mix 4 large angelfish easy but im biggest worry is that they will eat your coral. Try the Swallowtails you'll ahve better luck there. And i have noticed that flame angelfish have a fairly good chance being reefsafe.

ok thanks all... I may have to add a few things...

1. I really dont have that much live rock at all... probably about 150 lbs, I'll post a picture in a minute.
2. There is no coral in the tank at all, I dont know if it will help puting in the coral first, then the angels, or the angels first then the corals (getting them used to eating things other then coral.

Umm... Im not sure how to do this... I have pictures saved on my computer now... they are each about 1.4 mb... What should I do?

You can resize the pictures to med or large with window XP power toy (free download from microsoft) and host them at photobucket.com
