A few shots from my trip to the Everglades this morning. Its alligator mating season and they sounded so cool!

Critiques/tips are appreciated as I still have tons to learn.

Beautiful! What part of the Everglades?

From my perspective your images are very grainy. The focal points are good. However, some images you are slightly out of focus. Take your first image. Very nice but the three bugs in the left foreground are slightly out of focus. So I would say if you got a nice crisp of those bugs plus the ones on the stem with the background the way it is, it would make your picture pop! Plus if you have a photo editor I would 'pop' the yellow lines on them.

The second picture is good, along with the alligators. The black and white alligator is a bit bright on the one side.

Everglades National Park south, Anhinga Trail mostly and a couple other spots. We didn't have time to make it down to Flamingo this time.

I noticed some of my images look grainy, why is that?

I've got to work more with my manual focus, but its been a struggle thus far. Think I'll go to the bookstore and read up some more on photography.

The one of the hawk and the storks are more blurry because they were at the far end of my camera's range since they were a long way off.

Thanks for your help!

Grainly looks come from the camera needing more light to get the exposure. So what it does (digital) is turns up the ISO (Speed) so the "film" will be more sensitive and able to capture the image with less light (or a higher spped film was/is choosen to allow for shooting with slower settings).

You can probably smooth them out quite a bit with a noise reduction software like noise ninja. They used to have it free but it foeced you to save it as a JPEG. Depending on what your use is that may be no problem. You may want to check that or another noise reduction software out.
