Most effective DIY skimmer?

After lots of research, planning, and practice attempts I'm finally ready to build the skimmer for my 125. But I'm torn between building a beckett skimmer or a deltec clone.

Which would be the most effective for a total volume of around 400 Gallons?

Boy, thats a mixed question... comparing one to the other would require conparing actual sizes...

More efficient? Deltec clone.

do you have any plans for a deltec clone. if so plz email to a_spear94@hotmail.com

Is space a problem? i would go beckett less money long term and still good. the difference is air bubble size do to the ability of the needle-wheel on the deltec clone, however still remember this math 1.5X tank volume., If space, money, are no thing buy the $$$ one! If time is no thing go with the hard one deltec clone.

Why would the beckett be less money long term? The beckett is going to make for high incremental costs (electric bill).

What size tank are you using this on? Personally I would only consider beckett if I was going with a HUGE tank and had room for a really tall skimmer. Even then I think I would go with multiple short fat needle wheel skimmers though.

Go to the Deltec site. Copy their dimensions. I've never run a becket and with the energy efficiency, performance, and ease of maintence with needle/meshwheels I don't see any reason to...

Foshizzle pretty much summed up my plans.......

The total system volume will be around 400-500 gallons, basement fish room. So size really isn't an issue.

I have 4 beckett injectors laying around so I may just make one for the hell of it.

The deltec clone will be my long term project just for the fun. And with so many needlewheel pumps on the market I've got lots of options.
