Most Efficient Return Pump?

What is the most energy efficient pump on the market? I usually look at the mags and quiet ones but they run about the same power usage. Was looking for something that wasn't such a power hog.
 
it doesn't need to be drilled. just go up and over. That's the way mine have always been plumbed.
 
Also, i don't know about enry efficientcey on them, but the panwaorld external pumps are absolutely great pumps. You can'T even hear mine at all sitting behind the couch in the living room. Sure don't buy a Gen-X pump total POS. you will get exactly what you paid for. CHEAP , they work ok, but the housings are thin junk. Tighten the fitting just a tiny bit too tight and you will buying another one.
 
I find that all the pumps I researched use the same amount of electricity. So I guess I will have to base me decision on which one is quietest. Anyone know if the quiet ones live up to their name?
 
I have two Quiet One 4000's with absolutely no problems. Always start and when running I actually have to look at the water flow to assure they are on; perfectly quiet. I would highly recommend. - Mark
 
I've never had any problems running mags. Its good to have the sump sitting on levelling foam and to do all that you can to make sure theres nothing touching to cause any reverberation and most pumps run pretty well.

Since we took down the tanks in my house our downstairs is defeaningly quiet, so its definitely a noise you get used to hearing (more so the water trickling here, I'm going to have to buy a little fountain or something so its ounds normal again!)
 
Thanks for the advice I will go with a Quietone 4000 for my next pump it only uses 50 watts compared to the 83 my mag does. Trying to be as energy efficient as possible.
 
they aren't so quiet and get alot of calcium build up. More so that other pumps. I have a little giant. Not as efficient as most but with last for ever.
 
Trueno22. i highly recommend that you look into the panwaord external pumps. They are extremely quiet, and it frees up a ton of space in your sump to run an external pump versus an internal. Plus if an external pump goes bad, they don't boil the tank or sump like an internal pump does. The only contact the water has with an external pump is the impeller. I used to run external pumps, and i will never go back to them. It doesn't take rocket science to plumb in an external, and there is no drilling required. My panwaorld pump is so quit that you can't tell if it's even running without putting your hand down to feel the fan blowing or watching the return line in the tank. You might spend an extra $50, but the dependabilty and long lasting external pump will more than pay for the difference. They also transffer less heat to the tank than an internal pump does in most cases.
 
LOL; no, it's Panworld. They have them at premium aquatics. They are the same pumps as the WAY more expensive Iwaki pumps. Very dependable and Quite. They are very well built nice pimps. I was shocked at how well mine ran and how much power it had when i got it, and it just got more and more quiet over the first 3 days break in period, that it is totally silent. The only thing you here when i switch it on is the water start flowing down the overflow. Mine is rated at 1100gph, and it pushes every drop it says it does. I have to keep a gate valve on mine to slow it down or it will blow my corals off thier rocks lol.

I can post a pictur to so you the plumbing if you need it, but it is just a PVC pipe run up and over the end of the sump, and about 2 inches from the bottom of the sump. You will need a quick coonect facing up right at the top of the sump level and a turkey baster or small PH to prime the pump, but it has been on of the best things i have done was go to the external pump, and the Panworld is unbelievable for a pump. I've used Gen-X, Magdreive, quiet one, and ehiem, and this panworld pump smokes em all.

LOL!!! I was going buts trying to find anything resembling the name you originally put. I eventually want to switch from a wet/dry to a refugium would i be able to restrict the flow on it without it overheating.
 
Mine doent' seem to run any hotter because of restricting it. Be sure you only restrict the output side of the pump. You cannot restict the intake.
 
you sure? it is only 590 gallons per hour. i run a mag 9.5 and it doesn't seem to really push out water from the returns all that hard. It could be cause i have it split into 3 outlets. I was actually thinking originally to go to a mag 12 or a quiet one 5000 to get more output.
