Most underrated Tang?

But is it underrated? I say no. It's my favorite surgeon. When I saw a small school snorkling in Hawaii, I nearly lost it!

Adult chevrons are pretty underrated. I read people commenting on how they get ugly as adults. Admittedly they go through an awkward teenage phase (like any teenager, really :D ) but then the full adult colors are beautiful, IMO.

I agree with the others that the scopas is a really awesome tang. Often overlooked, but it has saved my butt from dichtyota and who knows what else when nothing else would touch it.

Another vote for the mimic tang here :)

Agree with you completely! I love that tang, looking at one for my display. How does your's get along with others, any issues? Also love the Dussimeri as well as the Mata, gorgeous fish!

I have a 150 Gallon with the 4 Tangs in it and they get along great. I have never seen any aggression between these tangs. I did have a Sohal Tang that wouldn't get along so I got him out of there. The 4 tangs are:
Barriene Tang 6", Blonde Naso Tang 5", Yellow Tang 4", Scopas Tang 4".

If the restriction is underrated tangs, I have to agree with many others, my tenetti was a great tang!

So Tenetti, convict, tomini and tomisoni are all great tangs you don't hear a lot about. I've now kept all of these and really enjoyed them all. I'm definitly warming up to the lavander tang too as I see more about it and see it more frequently in the LFSs in the area.

Lavender tangs were so abundant in Maui while I snorkeled and scuba dived, they were EVERYWHERE in large shoals. I remember thinking I needed to get one for my tank, then I forgot about that when I got back to Alaska.

I need to get one someday, they are a really nice looking tang.

from a different angle,it could be achilles tang....most people go for the beauty and then perennially struggle with it until they lose ....

from OP's angle i will go for goldrim....

I'll also go of the lieutenant tang..........
Some worthy mentions, Ctenochaetus Truncatus & Binotatus......Dussumieri tang ...........

is the dussumieri tang underated though? it does grow quite large. underate to me would mean that it has potential to be kept but gets overlooked. I dont think the duddumeiri gets overlooked more its unobtainable for most reef keepers due to its size.
