Mounting gorgonians

Quick question regarding mounting unattached gorgonians. I've read about different techniques, and the one I plan on using to mount my gorgs from the florida buy involves cutting off the outer rind from the bottom of the frag to about 1/2" up and then using epoxy to mount the frag to a rock. Does this sound right to you guys?
Thanks,
Mike

I have also heard of people drilling a small whole in the plug/rock. I have a past issue of Coral that spoke about propagating them.

Thanks Mark. I plan on using epoxy, and I read somewhere that if you don't cut off the outer skin where the epoxy will go, the coral will start to rot under the epoxy. Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with this. I'll likely follow the instructions on GARF.org though.

Mikey, yes, that's correct. The tissue will rot away and then the gorgonian will fall out. Just take a knife around the last 1/4 - 1/2", then glue it into something. I like to find a tiny hole somewhere on my rock.

I believe that is why they drilled small holes, stuffed them in and just let them healed on their own.

You might also want to check in the aquaculture and propagation forum here in rc.

Cool, thanks a lot fellas. I appreciate it! By the way Mark, those frags I got from you (peach palys & ring of fires) are doing awesome. Two of my favorite pieces. Thanks!

Cool, I saw that you fragged the peach palys in the zoanthid forum. I am sure they pull through, well?

With mine i removed a little bit of tissue, drilled a very small hole in a piece of rock, put a drop of superglue in the hole, and stuck the gorg in. 6 months later it has encrusted over the rock and has doubled in size. The biggest thing is flow, then feeding and time.

OK, thanks you guys. Mark, the palys look great now but I was sweating for a few hours. Let me know if you ever want a frag and it's yours.
Later,
Mike
