mounting probes

i am in the process of setting up my sump and will mount the prob holder at the top of one of the baffles. My questions are : 1) how far into the water should the probes be mounted
2) in the event of the sump filling will the probes be damages if the water goes so high as to reach the wire connection at the other end of the probe
3) does amount of flow past the probe end affect the reading

1. Not passed the cable joint at the top of the probe

2. Yes

3. Always best to put pH probes in light flow.
