Moving a big tank up stairs

I'm thinking about buying a 250dd but to get it up the stairs and in though my door I will have to carry it on its side.

1 can you carry a tank in its side with out breaking it?

2 how could 2 people get it up stairs?

Should I stick to just looking for an acrylic tank insted?

I'd be more worried about a second floor being able to support a tank that big before I thought about how to get it up the stairs. My 100 gallon and 30 gallon sump required us to put jacks in our crawl space so the floor didn't bow.

You can turn a tank on it's side to move it. I have done it many times. As to the stairs, if they have carpet on them you could probably slide the tank on the carpet. But like dweber said, make sure you have the support for that size tank.

You can get industrial suction cups or the two men moving straps that you see advertised "as seen on tv" my friend and I used these for my 220g. Outside walls are load baring one 2nd stories and its best to set the tank perpendicular to the way the floor joist run.

Two guys will have a very difficult time with that tank. It took 4 of us to move my 250DD down my half flight of stairs. When you put it on its side it becomes extremely unbalanced due to all the extra weight on the bottom.
