moving a clam

Hi... about two weeks ago we got a 3 inch crocea clam. I put it in the sand at the bottom of the tank in lots of light because the folks I bought it from said to put it in the sand. I tried to bury a rock in the sand underneath him for him to attach to but he has buried himself about half way just to the left of the rock. All was well until a couple of days ago when I moved an alveopora that my clowns were trying to host to the clam side of the tank. Today I noticed that when the alveopora is in full extension he is shading the clam. I really don't have another place for the alveopora, so I think I need to move the clam. Do I just pick im up and move him???
Thanks

Thanks, Well, I was able to move the clam very easily...he didn't seem attached to the sand. He is now on LR about two inches higher up. The Alveopora still shades him a tiny bit on one edge when its fully extended, but the clam has room to move on the plateau he is on if he needs to. He seems happy.
