Moving a tank

Im about to purchase a fully set up tank and I really have no idea on the best way to move this stuff. It has corals and fish, the whole thing. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

have fun ;) i would get as much of the water into containers as possible. walmart and home depot have a pretty good selection. try to get ones with lids that seal but not all the way. put everything in a box fish in one corals in a couple of others, sand in others. remove water that is left over disassemble all the equipment roll out. how far do you have to go?

like i said have fun :D best bet is to mix some water at the final destination to fill up with in case of spills or anything like that. the less time that you have everything out the better. get a bunch of rubbermaids and fill them up with everything then roll out. its not that big of deal to do. I just moved two of my tanks in january, but it was only a 15 min drive.

Im on the same boat. ill be moving soon and was wondering if thirs any way of doing this with out actually taking my tank apart. i have a 25 gal. tank and would be taking it no more than a 15-30 min drive. is it possible to do this with just taking out about 40-50% of the water and leaving everything else (fishes, corals, rocks etc.) in it?

mapleredta, I moved my 55 gal from Chicago to Denver, 1,000 miles. They were in buckets in the back of a Uhual pull behind trailer, that was 42 degrees, for 20 hours. Total time in the buckets was 42 hours (also the time I was up for, straight). 85 pounds of LR and 50 pounds of LS, all in buckets. When I got to Colorado, I set the tank up, put the LS and LR back in, filled it up with water, put the heaters in, hokked up the lights and filters. Then, I went to sleep, for a long time. Got up and was pleased to see everyone made the move successfully, no fatalities. I think I had like 14 fish in there at the time. So the moral of the storie is, like hndakd said have fun, and take your time moving them and everything will be fine. Good luck and have fun with your new tank. Keep us updated.

Thank you very much youve made me feel 40x better. I bought some storage bins and im thinking about getting a few cheap styrofome(sp) cooler's. Are they safe to use?

Styrofome would probably be fine but as said before about getting buckets from HD would probably be better. You will find a million uses for the buckets as time goes on. For the tank of coarse. Good luck.
