moving an established SPS colony

I have a red planet that is growing in the wrong direction in my rockscape.

I placed frags in my tank with no rhyme or reason and now they are starting to grow! I wish I knew then what I know now.

My concern with this Redplanet is if I allow it continue growing in its current location it will eventually overtake too many other pieces.

From your experience if i remove as much of the growth branch as i can and remount it do you believe the growth tips will continue or will i simply be starting over and waiting for the branch to encrust again?

All of the growth is limited to this one branch that currently has +/- 25 growth tips. the rest is just the original chunk of encrusted rock that i received the RP on.

as it is the only growth branch do you believe it (the branch i cut) will continue to grow once i remount it ? i am less concerned with the encrusted base as it is in a terrible location :(

i bit the bullet and cut the new growth branch off and moved it. About 1/2 of the growth tips stopped growing but other tips have since started. The piece is already well encrusted and taking off. I ripped the base off of the rock and glued it to a frag plug. It is fully encrusted and already putting off a new branch.

Dont be scared to tear up a red planet. That is one tough and forgiving coral!
